Covering everything from scrumptious entrees and snacks to thriving desserts and smoothies, these protein-rich recipes will make you fall in love with cottage cheese!

Being an Indian, cottage cheese (paneer) has always been a part of my life since my childhood.

I’m an avid lover of it, and I gobble them up whenever I get a chance.

And why not? They are packed with protein and calcium and can be incorporated into basically any curries, soups, or eaten raw.

Not only it is a delicious and versatile ingredient but it’s also great for weight loss.

And since you are looking for ways to cut down on carbs, here are my go-to cottage cheese keto recipes that are as quick and easy to make as they are irresistible.

But before we move any further, let me explain the…

Types of Cottage Cheese

Full fat: This type contains at least 4% milk fat. It is highly rich and creamier, and ideal for a heavy meal.

Low fat: This version has between 0.5-2% fat, making it a lighter option.

Fat-free: Has less than 0.5% fat, and it’s a popular option for people with low-calorie intake.

Organic: This is made from organic milk, meaning it is pure and doesn’t carry any synthetic pesticides, or antibiotics. The best kind for me!

Lactose-free: For individuals having lactose problems.

Difference Between Indian and Western Cottage Cheese

Making:

Indian cottage cheese, also known as paneer is made by curdling the milk with acidic substances such as lemon juice, or vinegar. The curds are strained and pressed to form paneer, and this process doesn’t require fermentation.

The Western cottage cheese undergoes the process of curdling the milk with bacteria, or rennet. It is then drained, cut, and washed to form the final product.

Texture:

The Indian version has a firm and crumbly texture. Plus, it doesn’t melt which makes it suitable for a variety of cuisines.

The Western type is moist and lumpy and needs to be kept in whey when storing.

Taste:

Both varieties have similar mild, and milky tastes, and there isn’t much difference in their flavor profiles.

Uses:

Paneer remains the star ingredient of many Indian dishes like matar paneer, paneer tikka, and paneer butter masala, and it is frequently used in curries, desserts, snacks, and stir-fries.

Western Cottage cheese is often eaten as it is or with fruits. It is usually incorporated in salads, dips, or as fillings.

  • 1 l Milk full fat
  • 3 tbsp Lemon Juice or
  • 3 tbsp Vinegar (I prefer it over lemon juice)
