Health Benefits of Turmeric

Turmeric has been used in Indian cuisine for more than a thousand years and most of its benefits come from its compound called curcumin.

Some of the benefits are:

  • Reduces risk of cancer
  • Anti-inflammatory properties
  • Lessens depression
  • Lowers the risk of heart disease
  • Improves Memory

Tools You’ll Need

  • Pot: To make the paste.
  • Whisk: To saute and stir.

Ingredients in This Golden Paste Recipe

Turmeric Powder: Turmeric is the star of the dish and has an earthy flavor. As mentioned above, it is really good for your health and body.

Cinnamon Powder: It has subtle aromaticness and fills the paste with its sweet and woody flavor.

Ginger: Ginger also has anti-inflammatory features like turmeric, and adds a spicy flavor.

Cloves: Cloves are highly aromatic, and add warmth to the dish. Plus, they balance the sweet flavor of cinnamon with its bitterness.

Black Pepper Powder: For a hint of spiciness.

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil has a robust distinctive flavor that adds wonder to this dish, and also presents a harmonious contrast between the flavors of turmeric, honey, and ginger.

Honey (optional): Honey is a natural sweetener that has a floral and woody taste, and is a healthier option than processed white sugar. You can also use maple syrup if you want.

Tips & Variations

Pre-mix the spices: Instead of adding the spices one by one in the pot, mix them all together beforehand to avoid burning except honey and water, as the spices will stick together.

Adding sweetener is optional: I’ve added honey just so that I don’t have to later when I’m making the milk or smoothies, but you can skip that step.
