Have some leftover chapatis from the night before, don’t worry! Chapati pizza or popularly known as roti pizza is the perfect solution to that problem.

If you don’t feel like preparing for breakfast or dinner, you can choose to make Chapati pizza. The recipe is easy to prepare, doesn’t take much time, and most important of all it’s flavorful!

Nowadays it has become a very popular dish in Indian households and this dish can be prepared in a pan without an oven. This is a modern and clever dish that can be prepared using leftover chapati or rotis as its base with the same taste as a traditional pizza.

About This Dish

As you all know and love pizza which was originated in Napes, Italy in the early 19th century by the baker named Raffaele Esposito, chapati/roti pizza is a direct inspiration from that (as the name suggests).

There is no clear timeline as to when chapati pizza came to light but the popularity of this dish rose to new heights during and after the lockdown.

Ingredients For Chapati Pizza

Serves: 2

  • 4 leftover chapatis
  • 8 tsp of pizza sauce
  • 4 tsp of cream
  • 2 cups of mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup of sweet corn
  • 1 medium capsicum diced
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 medium tomato diced
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

Preparation and Recipe for Chapati Pizza

  1. Heat the pan on medium heat for 2 mins till you see little steam coming out of it. Meanwhile, prepare your pizza by taking 2 stale chapati.
  2. Take 1 stale chapati pour half a cup of mozzarella cheese on it and evenly spread it out. Then cover that chapati with another chapati on it.
  3. Pour 2 tsp of cream, 4 tsp of pizza sauce, half cup of sweet corn, half diced capsicum, half diced onion, half diced tomato, and another half cup of mozzarella cheese on the top chapati respectively, don’t forget to evenly spread them out!
  4. Add a pinch of salt and black pepper to the chapati and place it in the pan for 5-7 mins on low heat.
  5. And voila! Your chapati pizza is ready to devour. Cut the chapati pizza intoI 4 equal quadrants a place them on a plate.

Tips & Tricks

If you like, you can only use one chapati to make the pizza. Just skip the second point mentioned above and do the preparations accordingly. I prepare my chapati pizza with 2 stale chapatis as it thickens the base and there is a less chance that the base would burn.

You can also choose to cut the veggies in any way you like and don’t have to dice them. I do it because I like big chunks of veggies on my pizza and the crunch sound it makes when you bite the veggies is just amazing.

You can pour some ornaments like oregano and chili fakes if you like an extra punch of flavor too.

Things to Keep in Mind

Chapati pizza can only be made using stale chapatis. If you make the pizza with fresh chapati, the base will get soft and it won’t be sturdy to hold on to the toppings.

Also heat up the pan beforehand for 2 mins on medium flame and when placing the pizza in the pan, keep it on low flame to prevent the base from getting burnt.

Bread can also be an alternative to chapati when making this recipe.

Final Thoughts

We may not know the origin of chapati pizza, but this dish has become so popular that both kids and adults enjoy this. And the best part of it all is that you can make it with leftovers.

I hope you enjoyed this recipe and please tell me how did you like it, and also how you make it at your home.
