No matter how many different types of sauces I’ve never gone tired of them.

And this sour cream pasta sauce is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Throw together a handful of ingredients: sour cream, milk, and some peppers.

And voila!

You’ll have a flavor-bursting condiment that makes you want it more each time you make it.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that it can also be used as a salad dressing.

What is Sour Cream?

Sour cream is obtained from regular cream that has been fermented by adding lactic acid bacteria.

The result?

You’ll get a thick, creamy textured, and tangy condiment that is popularly used as a topping for tacos, nachos, and various Mexican, and Tex-Mex dishes.

It is also an ingredient that is utilized in baked goods like cakes, and muffins to add moisture, and a subtle tangy flavor.

I used Gemma Stafford’s recipe to make sour cream. It’s an extremely easy and straightforward recipe.

What is Sour Cream Pasta Sauce?

Sour cream pasta sauce is similar to a typical white sauce for pasta; both white-colored and made via whisking milk in the blend of butter, garlic, and refined flour.

But the key difference is the addition of sour cream in pasta sauce.

The sour cream adds a slight savoriness to the sauce.

FAQ

Is sour cream gluten-free?

The star ingredient of sour cream is simply cream which is gluten-free.

However, some brands add thickeners and flavors that may contain gluten-friendly properties.

It’s best to make sour cream at home if you have gluten-related health issues.

How long can sour cream sit out?

It can sit out for a couple of hours at room temperature. After that, it should be kept in the refrigerator.

Otherwise, if left out for more than 2 hours, it can have spoilage bacteria that can cause food poisoning.
