Apples: They are the star of the show here. I used Honeycrisp apples because I have a sweet tooth, and I like my desserts extra sugary. However, the Granny Smith apples are the ideal ones to use here because of their tart flavor, which balances the sweetness of sugar.
Granulated Sugar: What’s a dessert without some added sweetness?
Lemon: Lemon brightens up the compote and adds the necessary acidity to it.
Cinnamon: Cinnamon infuses warmth and spice, and brings all the flavors together.
How To Make Apple Compote
Combine the ingredients:
In a skillet, add apples, sugar, squeezed lemon, and cinnamon, and switch on the flame to medium.
Cook them:
Cook them till the sugar has caramelized and the apples have become soft.
Lower the heat, and saute the ingredients, so that apples do not burn.
Cool them up:
Take them out, set them on a plate evenly, and put them in the freezer for 5-6 minutes to settle up the flavors and texture.
Your apple compote is ready to be served.

White sugar alternatives: Instead of white granulated sugar, you can go for brown sugar. It makes the compote look the part with its brown smokey colors and flavors.
Some more additions: You can add salt if the sweetness levels are too high for you, and some vanilla extract for more flavor.
