Easy Sesame Brown Butter Udon Noodles Recipe in Just 15 Minutes!

These sesame brown butter udon noodles are loaded with fresh Asian-inspired flavors and only require a handful of ingredients. The noodles are paired with crispy green spinach and rested on top of a savory and umami-flavored base that screams delicious!

Ingredients
  

For Boiling Noodles:

  • 250 gms Udon Noodles
  • Water as required
  • 1 tsp Salt

For the Gravy:

  • 4 tbsp Vegan Butter
  • 3 small Spring Onions roughly chopped
  • 6-7 cloves Garlic minced
  • 150 gms Spinach
  • tbsp Soy Sauce
  • Black Pepper Powder a pinch
  • Reserved Udon Water

For the Noodles:

  • Prepared Gravy
  • Prepared Udon Noodles
  • 1 tsp Sesame Seeds

Instructions
 

  • Take a pot, add salt, and boil the udon noodles in water for 3-4 minutes till al dante.
  • Reserve some noodle water, and sieve out the rest.
  • In a skillet, add butter and cook it on medium flame for 3-4 minutes till it turns golden brown.
  • Lower the flame, add spring onion and garlic, and saute on high flame for 30 secs.
  • Add soy sauce and spinach and give it a mix. Then pour the reserved noodle water and salt into the mix, and give it a whirl.
  • Finally, add the cooked udon noodles, and garnish them with sesame seeds and black pepper powder.
  • Your sesame brown butter udon noodles are ready.

Notes

  • For the gluten-free version: if you want to make this recipe completely gluten-free, use tamari in place of soy sauce and swap udon noodles with a gluten-free alternative.
  • Keep the salt levels in mind: Since soy sauce and salted butter are being used, the sodium is already high, so only add a modest amount of salt to the noodles, or skip it altogether if you don't feel like it.
 
How to store:
In the fridge: This dish can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days before the soy sauce releases its oil at the time of reheating and ruin the flavors of the noodles.
In the freezer: Do not freeze this meal as the texture of the noodles will alter.
