Make basil pesto.
In a bowl, add mayonnaise, then add minced garlic, prepared basil pesto, and lemon juice, and mix well.
Adjust the taste of the sauce by adding salt, and you have creamy aioli sauce ready for the taking.
- Try different herbs: When making your pesto, instead of using basil leaves, go for other herbs like rosemary, mint, parsley, or a combination of all for an explosion of herbiness.
- Make homemade mayonnaise: If you are peculiar about homemade meals, and keep the store-bought stuff as far as possible, try making the mayonnaise yourself. I've never tried it but I hear from many colleagues that they come out even better than some branded ones.
- Add some heat: For a spicy contrast of flavors, add some crushed black pepper. Not only will it give a certain depth of flavor to the aioli, but also make it appealing to look at.
How to store:
In the fridge: You can store the leftover aioli in the refrigerator by placing it in a glass jar or air-tight container.
In the freezer: Do not put the sauce in the freezer as the emulsified mayonnaise will separate the oil and spoil the aioli.
